CM announces Patrakar Kaksh
for journalists on GUJ Foundation Day, presents Journalism Awards
Chief minister Pramod Sawant has announced that
the state government will provide a ‘Patrakar Kaksh’ in Panaji with all
facilities for journalists in Goa.
The chief minister was speaking during the 46th
Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) Foundation Day and GUJ Journalism Awards 2021,
2022 ceremony held in Panaji on Wednesday.
In his welcome speech, GUJ president Rajtilak Naik
placed two demands before the chief minister. The first was for a Patrakar
Bhavan, besides the long-pending demand for providing housing for journalists.
While announcing a ‘Patrakar Kaksh’, Sawant said
budget provision for a housing scheme for journalists will be made next year.
“I congratulate all the winners of GUJ Journalism
Awards. I am happy to say that the Budget provision for E-bikes to journalist
has already been made and we are working on it. A budget provision for the housing scheme will be made next year,” said Sawant.
The chief minister later felicitated veteran rural
journalists, Ramnath Desai (Bicholim) and Dayanand Rane (Vasco), for their
dedicated service in the field of rural journalism.
Sawant also presented a couple of awards to
winners of the GUJ Journalism Awards before rushing to attend Assembly
proceedings.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao was also present
for the Foundation Day celebrations and listened to the panel discussion
on ‘Media Credibility In The Time Of Fake News’.
“I say with concern today politician thrives on
fake news. Fake news has power to assassinate character and can also ignite
riots. It is therefore appropriate that GUJ organised a lecture on media
credibility in the time of fake news,” said Yuri.
Rajesh Menon (Resident Editor, The Times of
India-Goa), Nidhin Valsan IPS (Superintendent of Police-North Goa) and
Pandurang Gaonkar (Editor- Goan Varta) were the resource persons for the panel
discussion which was moderated by veteran journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai.
Dipak Bandekar, Director, Department of
Information and Publicity, handed over the GUJ Journalism Awards 2021 and 2022
to the winners, in the presence of judges Sandesh Prabhudesai and veteran
photojournalist Sandeep Naik.
GUJ president Rajtilak Naik welcomed while GUJ
secretary Vasudev Pagi proposed the vote of thanks.
Sachin Surlikar and Pradnya Rane compered the
event.
