46 red defaulters barred from participating in
next week’s GUJ election
Final deadline for 58 yellow defaulters to pay
their membership fee by June 8, 2022
The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) has barred 46
GUJ Ordinary members (red defaulters- membership fee due for three consecutive
years) from participating in the forthcoming GUJ election 2022-2024 and will be
issued suspension notices after they failed to submit their self-declaration
and membership fee within the given deadline of 15 days, a violation of Article
26 of the GUJ Constitution ‘DISCIPLINARY ACTION & DISBANDMENT OF UNITS’.
GUJ has extended a final two-day deadline to 58
GUJ Ordinary members (yellow defaulters- membership fee due for one/ two years)
to submit their self-declaration and membership fee by June 8, 2022 (midnight),
failing which they will be considered as defaulters and will be barred from
participating in the GUJ election which will be held next week on June 18.
Important: No membership fee will be accepted on the Annual
General Meeting day/ GUJ election day. Only pre-paid GUJ membership fee
receipts will be issued to members on June 18, 2022.

ARTICLE 26 OF THE GUJ CONSTITUTION
DISCIPLINARY
ACTION & DISBANDMENT OF UNITS:
26.
The Union Executive, as well as the Unit
Executive, shall suspend or remove from membership, by, a two-thirds majority
of those present at a specially convened meeting for the purpose, any member
who:
a. fails to pay his/her subscription dues within
the stipulated period, or
b. acts contrary to the code of conduct,
journalistic or professional ethics, or in any matter prejudicial to the
interests of the profession in general and the union in particular; or
c. acts against the policy, objectives and
constitution of the union; or is found lacking in the proper handling of the
union funds or any other funds connected with the union: or
d. who sides with the management against the
interests of other members of the union in the same organisation: provided that
such a member against whom action under any one of the sub-clauses under this
article is being contemplated is given. in writing, the charges against him and
reasonable opportunity to explain his/her conduct within fifteen days.
