The academic year 2025-26 at the XCHR is well underway, and even the incessant rains haven’t deterred the arrival of the first students and researchers who are diligently poring over our library collections. We look forward to welcoming many more scholars to our reading room, while our library will continue to replenish its growing collections with new sources.

We are also delighted to welcome Délio Mendonça as Assistant Director and Program Coordinator for the Arts at the XCHR. Similarly, Jonathan D’Silva joins us as the Administrator of the XCHR. Welcome Délio and Jonathan.

Délio Mendonça is Assistant Director and Program Coordinator for the Arts at the XCHR. He has Master’s degrees in History, Portuguese Literature and Culture (Goa), Church History (Rome) and a PhD in History (Pune). He has previously served as the Director of the Xavier Centre of Historical Research in Goa, and also taught Portuguese Literature and Culture at the Goa University. He is the author of the seminal work Conversions and Citizenry: Goa under Portugal 1510–1610 (2002) and Fonseca (2022). Until recently, Délio was the Dean and Professor at the Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.

Jonathan D’Silva is Administrator at the XCHR. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from St. Xavier’s College, Goa and a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Loyola College, Chennai. His academic background combines mathematical and philosophical inquiry along with a strong interest in history.

On this note, we acknowledge with gratitude the contribution of Anthony da Silva and Anthony Noronha to the growth of the XCHR. We wish them every success in their new appointments.

We hope to see you all at the XCHR for our range of academic discussions and programmes, and now with an added focus on the arts.

Rinald D’Souza
Director
