Brahmana were Marathi who came down to Goa. Fish eating, trading, and land-owning (bhattkar with zonn) - these are not brahmana 'caste' occupations. Why and how did they change? Eating fish, could they serve as priests in temples? I did some very intense study of Mhamai Kamat in Panaji for more than five years. They were traders before the Estado. Their documentation was persuasively appropriated by XCHR by Teotonio R. de Souza when I was at Jesuit House with Braz, Gregory, and CM's brother, D'Souza of GIM. I have lost the MSS at Alvas in Mudubidri, when my library was shifted there. Recovery would be hard.
