BRAHMIN OR BAHUJAN? HERITAGE OR EMBARRASSMENT?
THE CONFLICTED IDENTITY OF THE GOAN TEMPLE
This paper is about the conflicts in which the Goan temple is today
embroiled, and their impact on its architecture. There is little doubt that
taste—or aesthetic choice—in temple architecture has changed in Goa from
the late Portuguese era to today, with the result that the architecture of
the Goan temple is now a seriously endangered part of Goa’s cultural
heritage.

FN, There is the case of Brahmana in Goa who are fish consumers. Could the boys of these families have access to temple service? If they can't, who then takes up the service for them in the temple? I have done extensive work on this in Canara where SB, GSB temples are served by Brahmana. There is also the case of deities, hardly any of them are traditiona or puranic. They ae local and renamed as puranic. How do you think the re-intereptation goes?

At some point of the very interesting paper authored by Amita Kanekar, a reference is made to the patronship of the temples. Concerning this issue I would be grateful if I could be more elucidated on the subject.
