The Discipline of Portuguese & Lusophone Studies, Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature, Goa University, in collaboration with the Directorate of the Visiting Research Professor Programme (VRPP), is organising a 2-credit course titled "Language Contact in South Asia and the Role of Portuguese". The course will be taught by Professor Hugo Cardoso of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Universidade de Lisboa. This course offers a unique opportunity to explore the linguistic interactions that have shaped South Asia, with particular emphasis on the historical and contemporary role of Portuguese in the region. It will be of interest to students and researchers in linguistics, Portuguese studies, language contact, sociolinguistics, history, and related disciplines.

Ø Participants: Any student at Goa University is welcome to register. The course is open and free for students and the general public; however, registration is compulsory.
Ø Students at Goa University who wish to earn 2 credits are requested to go through the syllabus, teaching schedule, and evaluation details. 
Ø Participation Certificate will be issued to all participants who maintain a minimum of 75% attendance.
Ø Venue: VRPP Seminar Hall, Directorate Block, Goa University.
Ø Duration of the Course: 27 July 2026 to 5 August 2026.

Note: Course Fee: Nil.
Examination fee for Goa University students opting to earn credits and any other applicable fees shall be as per University rules. A minimum of 75% attendance is compulsory for successful completion of the course.
