

The Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature, Goa University, proudly commemorates the birth centennial year of Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai. A distinguished Konkani poet, writer, and French translator, Dr. Sardessai left an indelible mark on modern Konkani poetry and its revival. His poetic brilliance transcended linguistic boundaries, encompassing Konkani, English, French, Portuguese, and Marathi. As the former Head of the Department of French at Goa University, he nurtured literary talent and inspired countless writers. His accolades, such as the Sahitya Akademi Award and the prestigious title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques bestowed by the French Government, attest to his enduring legacy. His words continue to ignite creativity and resonate across generations of poets and writers.
To honor his remarkable legacy, the Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature, Goa University, is organizing a two-day symposium on the Life and Works of Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai on March 13 and 14, 2024, at the Conference Hall, Administration Building, Goa University.
