Dear fellow researchers,
Prof. Bene R. Ferrao and I will be in conversation on 26 Thurs March, 2026, discussing the anthology The Brave New World of Goan Writings 2025 published by Cinnamon Teal, India.
We will also be discussing our forthcoming books, my book, Half-Caste and Empire: Goans in Zanzibar, 1860-1910 (Speaking Tiger, India) and Bene's Across Continents: Writing Goans, Making Worlds (University of Michigan Press.)
Discussion will vary from the amphibious nature of Goan identity, its changing loyalties switching between the Sultanate of Zanzibar, British protection and Portuguese nationhood, the Goan role in slavery, racism, and forming a ruling class in East Africa, Writing and understanding lusopheric post/coloniality through an inquiry of literature.
We hope to see you there.
