This is all well-known. Described many years ago by Jose Antonio Ismael Gracias in his important monograph “Uma Dona Portuguesa na Corte do Grão Mongol”.

Right. But only recently getting noticed in the wider Indian (English-language) discourse. 
A lot of work does get 'recycled' across the languages.
