Democracy in Goa is alive and well.

Democracy offers several advantages that contribute to its popularity as a form of government.  Democracies allow people to become personally involved with their government. Since the government is under the control of the people, each individual has the chance to decide their fate.

The Lok Sabha election on Tuesday witnessed a 75.20 percent voter turnout across both Lok Sabha seats in the state of Goa. The electoral fervor was particularly notable in North Goa, where polling reached 76.54 percent, and in South Goa, where it stood at 73.90 percent.

Breaking down the figures further, certain constituencies emerged as the vanguards of voter engagement.

Well, alive and well - that is one way of looking at democracy.
However, what is the point of voting for a Goan MLA if he/she switches allegiance to another party, after being 'bought' by the ruling party and requested to 'shut up'?
Democracy is about electing politicians with a manifesto that needs to be delivered once elected. It is not a blank card to loot and get rich.
Democracy is about going to the streets and protest peacefully if something is not right, with no fear of repercussion or imprisonment/beatings.
Democracy is when the press can criticise the government and not be threatened not to speak/write/comment anything negative about them.
Democracy is when the government does policies for people's benefits, not for the benefit of the rich and party donors.
One can go on to realise India is not a real democracy but an autocracy ruled by a dictator.
Anyone still thinking India is a democracy, I am afraid they are deluded.

Where are you getting your inputs from?
The fairness of this election has been widely debated closer to Ground Zero.
Here's one discussion from the prominent journalist Faye D'Souza: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PuKWct4UnE

Where am I getting the inputs from?

I got it from a well-known newspaper in Goa.

If we don't believe what the newspapers announce,, who should we trust?

Here it is.

Cota
Your opinion expressed here must be referring to Donald Trump and subsequent events in the USA or Iran.
As a Portuguese politician said: Let us have the humility to always prefer imperfect democracy to dictatorship. Nobody wants to exchange a less perfect democracy for a dictatorship. We want better, much better democracy.
Now about retornados. The people (like a former Goan priest I met) who left Goa after 1961 will never support tDemocracy, especially when they jumped to where Salazar ruled, then from Portugal to Africa and finally from here to Portugal and Brasil in 1975.
Cota, there's more. Polling booths in Goa were seen with arrangements of refreshments, coolers, and shades to protect the voters from the heat.
We can imagine, PEOPLE DRINKING COKE, JUICES, EATING SHRIMP, BEFORE GOING TO VOTE.
Want better than that? Not even in the USA.
Regards

Alberto

Dear Alberto,
The dictator I was referring to is no other than our good friend Modi.
The Armani suit guy.
I wonder how these voting machines are rigged this time to favour the votes towards a certain communalist, fundamentalist, party we are familiar with the name.
Till date, I am curious to know why Mr Goel resigned as Election Commissioner for 'personal reasons'. Could it be he did not agree to certain 'stuff' imposed on him in West Bengal or elsewehre, or was he threatened in any way?
Many organizations overseas already label India as an autocracy, ruled by a dictator - not a democracy. If anyone disagrees with him, it is his way or the highway... democracies function differently.
The main element being accountability - which he feels he has none.
BTW, these arrangements of refreshments, shades, etc. at pooling stations are basics and should not be seen as freebies with a poster of the big man - as if he has provided that.
Other states in India have candidates offering freebies like chickens, booze, etc.
Democracy, seriously?
Regards,
Joao Paulo

Dear Cota
You will never stop the people of Goa and other Indian states from going to vote whenever there are elections. They were there in large numbers and even the Catholic nuns were there as seen in the photos.
In addition to your friend Modi, you forgot to mention Trumph, Erdogan, Bolsonaro, Duterte, Orban, etc… and the dwarf André Ventura.
Regards
Alberto

Dear Alberto,
Of course people in Goa and elsewhere are going to vote whenever there are elections.
The problem is not the people, but those candidates who jump wagon once elected, thus betraying people. So many votes are gone in vain...
I did not mention the other dictators, including Xi and Kim, as in their countries, it is not such a farce as in India. Over there, they don't pretend it is a democracy - they just accept it is a dictatorship. If there is an opposition, they just jail them or shoot them. At least, these are dictators who make themselves known as such. The Armani suit guy here goes on preaching about the 'world's largest democracy' - and does nothing when  muslim or christians are attacked/shot/burnt by the saffron lunatics.
It is the world's biggest farce.
Joao Paulo
