Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts invites you to the opening of Makers and Materials: Goa Past and Present on Saturday, 06 December 2025 at 6.00 pm. Curated by Leandre D’Souza & Dr. Kelli Wood, this landmark exhibition explores Goa’s rich material heritage and its connection to contemporary artistic practice in India.
Showcasing sculpture, textiles, multimedia installations, photography, and text-based works, the exhibition highlights how craft traditions — from shell and woodwork to metalwork — evolved through centuries of cultural exchange, negotiation, and transformation. It repositions Goa as a centre of artistic knowledge, where history lives not only in archives, but in material memory and making.
A companion publication, Makers & Materials: Goa Past and Present, will be launched during the show.
This exhibition is in partnership with The University of Tennessee Knoxville, Fulbright India and Swiss Arts Council ProHelvetia.
Makers and Materials: Goa Past and Present will be on view from 06 December 2025 to 28 February 2026.
