Libia Lobo Sardesai, turned 100 years old on May 25th. She along with her husband, the former Angolan ambassador, the late Sardesai, played a crucial role in Goa's freedom struggle. The couple demonstrated extraordinary courage and dedication in operating an underground radio station that transmitted vital information from November 1955 until the liberation of Goa on December 20, 1961. “Voice of Freedom” for English broadcast, “Voz de Liberdade” for the Portuguese broadcast and “Goenche Sadvonecho Awaz” for the Konkani broadcast was run by Libia Lobo during Goa's Freedom Movement. The purpose of this radio service was to provide information and motivate people to fight for their freedom.
