Kala Academy Goa will organise Kavya Hotra, a national poet’s event, in the field of poetry from July 21 to July 23. At a press conference held on Friday at Kala Academy chairman Vishnu Surya Wagh briefly explained about the event last year and wished for a similar success this year as well, “Last year’s Kavya Hotra event was a success as we received a good response from the participants we hope to get similar feedback this year too.”
The event is organised for the second consecutive year as the second edition of Kavya Hotra poets meet. Governor of Goa, Mridula Sinha is expected to inaugurate the ceremony, which will be held on July 21 at 11 a.m. at Kala Academy, Panaji.
“The event would sight 52 hours uninterrupted marathon presentation of poetry in all Indian languages by poets of regional as well as national level from all parts of the country. Representatives of languages like Manipuri, Maithili, Dogri and more have also confirmed their attendance. Overall each state will have at least one representative attending this event,” said Wagh.
While explaining the main idea of organising this event Wagh said: “It is to promote cultural tourism which is not much focused upon and to give Goa a creative identity. An Indian author who has largely contributed to the field of writing will be awarded with the prestigious ‘Kavya Hotra Puraskar’ and award of `2 lakhs. Similarly, ‘Pradarpan Purskar’ will be awarded to one male and female writer for his/her works in writing besides a sum of `25000. The jury will finalise the recipients of these awards. We have requested colleges and higher secondary schools to send good writers in Konkani, Marathi, Hindi and English to participate in this event.”
Wagh further informed that the Limca Book of Records will attend this event, to take stand weather or not this event is worth getting a position in their book of records.
The closing ceremony will be held on July 23 at 5 p.m. Defense minister, Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar, among others will attend the closing ceremony.
