A query popped into my inbox this morning, and I was clueless for an answer. Would you know?

Is there an English language transations of the Sahyadri-kandha by Gerson da Cunha available somewhere? His Sanskrit edition (1877) is on the internet, in which he mentions he is preparing its translation (p.3). And in his other book "The Konkani Language and Literature" (p. 8), he mentions this translation is already finished

If this is the case, does anyone know where the translation is available?

Thanks in advance, FN

The Asiatic Library in Bombay could be a source.

Dr Teo sent this to me:

QUOTE

Saw your query in GBC. The following may help-

J.B.T. Ferrão contributed six long and erudite articles about Sahyadri Khanda quoting the text in sanskrit four years before Gerson's edition of it. The articles are published in Instituto Vasco da Gama, from nº 31, July 1874 till Nº 36, Dec 1874. The journal ceased publication with that issue. The journal is rare and not easily available for consultation. In my collection I  have a complete copy of the whole series.

Boletim  do Instituto Vasco da Gama issues are available, I assume, at Goa State Library (old Central Library); Carlos could confirm.
An "English Edition" of Sahyadrikhanda is for sale on Flipkart. Check : http://www.flipkart.com/sahyadrikhanda-english/p/itmdcpwtumq6ghzh
for Rs. 1,251/-
I have been thinking of ordering it since long, but am not sure how genuine it is.
Tensing.

Here's a link to the Asiatic Library, Bombay, which shows the Sahayadri Khanda in stock. I hope it helps.

But I could not find those particular volumes quoted by Dr. Teotonio -  from nº 31, July 1874 till Nº 36, Dec 1874. If I am right the vols available there begin from somewhere 1928. The vols numbered 31 to 36 there seem to be different, of a later date, in 1900s.

But does anyone have any information about the English SK being sold on Flipkart ?
Or where the Marathi SK is accessible ?

The Boletim had two series. In fact the first series was only named "Instituto Vasco da Gama" and lasted more or less the same time as it lasted the Institut's activity in its first phase (182-1875). The Boletim do Instituto..., properly called, appeared with the re-birth of the Institut in 1926. After Liberation it became Boletim do Instituto Menezes Bragança. Memória d'África only seems to have this series.
