I went through Augusto Pinto. I appreciate very much his work of translation. Chandrakant Keni and Ravindra Kelekar I transliterate, not translate, into Kannada script from Nagari in order to acquaint people in Karnataka with Konkani in Nagari script. That was in 1973. Then invited Ullas Buyao to South Kanara in 1976 and he presented his composition, among others, mongllurachea xarant ek chddum dekila, kazar mhojelagim zatam mhonnon tannem sangilam. This was not Bamonn Konkanni. This was popular, common, Goa Konkanni. Then had the 100th birthday of Shennoi Goybab in Mangalore in 1937 financed by Number 30 Beedies, Mr. B. Manjunath Pai. This transliteration between Konkanni scripts unites and brings about what I call, not standard, but common or soroll speech, bhas.

Is the conflict between the written form and the spoken?  Or the need to do away with the monopoly and dominance of any single script, dialect or socio-cultural group over what counts as legitimate Konkani? We see shades and shadows of the latter in both the written and spoken forms...

I think he's saying there's no conflict between the spoken forms (allowing for dialectical differences) and it's a misuse of energy to focus on different scripts used to write the language and which script is dominant or not.

Konkani is actually spoken in a range of regional, social and community varieties. Not just across Goa, but also in coastal Karnataka, Maharashtra and parts of Kerala. These varieties are not identical: most will not understand another dialect easily and comfortable. There are significant differences in vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and also the influence from neighbouring languages.

Maybe what we need is to preserve and develop all the major literary traditions (and even minor ones). Also to make it easier to transliterate and read Konkani across scripts. Konkanverter.com helps. Presently,  serious script fragmentation is creating severe problems for digital preservation and access to Konkani literature. 

Prof WRdaS knows this issue well...
