DKA vows to promote women in literature and culture
Panaji : In its endeavor to promote Konkani language and culture amongst women, Dalgado Konkani Akademi has instituted an award called ‘Berta Menezes Ostori Puroskar’, sponsored by the family of Berta Menezes after her birth centenary. Late Berta Menezes was always a part and parcel of Konkani literature and cultural activities. This family incidentally runs Kids’ Kingdom International School under the banner of Dona Berta Menezes Education Trust.
This award is given every year to a woman who has excelled in the cultural field and in literature in Konkani in Roman script, at the annual Dalgado Awards with an intention to give boost to women who shy away to participate in the activities and refrain from utilising their talent.
This year, the recipient of Berta Menezes Ostori Puroskar is Ms Marianela Philgina Mascarenhas Dias ( Gina). Marianela has been presented with the prestigious Berta Menezes Ostori Puroskar at the hands of His Excellency Aleixo das Neves Dias, sfx, Bishop Emeritus of Port Blair in the presence of Shri. Vincy Quadros, President of DKA at the Ravindra Bhavan Conference hall, Margao on 13th November, 2021.
Born on 27th of September in 1971, Marianela, a qualified teacher, is the Lecturer in Chemistry at GVM's SNJA Higher Secondary, Ponda, Goa. Resident of Margao, Marianela could be called as the leader of Goan Folklore. She has her own musical troupe called ‘Goenchim Noketram’. Obtaining Grade-6, Pianoforte, from Royal School of Music, London, Marianela is a great asset to Konkani language and folklore. She strives hard to protect, preserve and promote the unique traditional cultural Heritage of Goa through Song and Dance in all its authenticity. She has given a total of 49 International shows and 28 national shows and a number of state level shows, besides performing at various Folk festivals. She has own compositions too. She has provided lyrics and music for a total of 8 mandos and 6 songs included in the Audio CD titled Goa - Tuzo Mog Mhaka.
Dalgado Konknni Akademi feels proud to have such an international star in their award category and vows to promote women in literature and culture. Bishop Dias made the special mention of DKA for choosing such talented individuals which would sow the seeds of literature and culture in our society.

Fr Myron's writings must be published in Devnagri: Vincy Quadros
Navelim: 'Fr. Myron J. Barreto is a young Konkani writer. He has recently been selected for 'Yuva Srujon Puroskar' by the Department of Art and Culture, government of Goa. He has written several quality books in Konkani Roman script. It is indeed a necessity that his writings are now published in Devnagri script,' stressed Vincy Quadros, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA).
DKA had organised a critical symposium on 'Tallo' a book authored by Fr. Myron at the Conference Hall of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim on November 22, 2021. DKA hold such symposiums with the sole motive that the renowned writers share their experience and thus guide and enrich the upcoming writers.
While evaluating the book, Vishal Khandeparkar, a Konkani teacher, said that the author needs to revisit the cover of the book if he wishes to transliterate it in Devnagri script. He was speaking on the impact of the book on the readers and what is needed to gain the maximum impact.
Fausto V. D'Costa, editor of Gulab monthly, while assessing the literary richness, gave valuable suggestions.
Jasmine Rodrigues, Konkani writer, spoke on the style of the introduction and the conclusion of the prose. Tarkeshwar A. Naik, another Konkani writer guided Fr Myron on the contents and the settings of the book.
While accepting the suggestions, Fr. Myron assured that he will publish his book 'Tallo' in Devnagri scipt and profusely thanked all the participants and the organisers specially DKA for their guidance. He feels Vincy Quadros as his guide and mentor and accreded his special mention.
