to The Third Thursday Goa Book Club
Using my precious Rs 750 lifetime-membership card at the Central Library Goa (arguably successor to South Asia's oldest public library), I picked up SS Talmaki's *Konkani Proverbs and Idioms with Riddles, Lullabies and Nursery Songs*.
This was the third edition of the book (1932, 1936, 1991), published by the Bombay/Mumbai-based Popular Book Depot (whose owners the Bhatkals come from what today is coastal Karnataka, and who are Konkani speakers themselves... a number of the early Konkani/Goa-related books have been published by them too).
Enclosed are some publishing details of the book, along with its contents page. The book is in devanagari. This, together with the variations in dialects used, make it somewhat of a challenge to follow. Nonetheless, it's an interesting title... one I wish I had in my collection! FN
