The above discussion was held last Monday at the Goa Konkani Akademi's (newish) premises on the 5th floor of the BSNL building at Pato, Panjim. Many issues came up relating to publishing in today's Goa. The focus was on Konkani, but at some point, organisers also said they would be looking at works in other languages which were "basically Goan" (rough translation).
As could be expected, there were many concerns raised. Like the challenges in making Konkani books more popular, the "small size" the market, the themes which most Konkani books address currently, the author-publisher model of publishing (through which many Konkani books are published today) and  what could be done to improve the situation.
It was interesting to interact with others, and get differing insights into the field. We obvious still have a lot of challenges in front of boosting readerships in today's Goa. Check out the discussion if it's on a subject that interests you. FN
