Raghuvir Mulgaonkar (1918–1976) was a renowned Indian artist, especially famous for his mythological paintings of Hindu gods and goddesses. Born in Goa, he became one of the most influential commercial and fine artists of mid-20th-century India. He is often called “the artist who gave a face to the gods” because many of the familiar images of Hindu deities seen in calendars, books, and posters were shaped by his style. Mulgaonkar created thousands of artworks (around 5,000–7,000) over his career, covering mythology, social themes, advertisements, and book illustrations. He was also known for:
* A highly realistic yet imaginative style (often painting without models)
* Designing book covers, magazine illustrations, and film posters
* Being nicknamed “Chitrasamrat” (Emperor of Painting) for his mastery
