Some nine colleges ahve confirmed their participation (with two students each) in a short story training and writing contest two-day event to be held at St Xavier's College, Mapusa, later this weekend.
Prof. Sunita Mesquita of the English Department writes: "We have nine confirmed colleges participating with two students each. We are
looking at a total of 50 students... the remaining would be students from
Xavier's but they are not being allowed to participate in the contest
(to keep to fairness)."
Selma Carvalho suggested, via the Goa Book Club, a short-story contest in Goa some months back. We at Goa,1556 took the suggestion to Xavier's, with whom we have an MoU to share skills and ideas.
Grateful to Selma for coming up with the suggestion, sponsoring prizes &c. Also the Xavier's team needs to be appreciate for all the work put in to make the Spin A Yarn Short Story Contest happen!
At least three to four active GBCers will be taking part in event, since the idea is to raise the bar of local skills among students, rather than just hold a contest of existing skills.
Thanks to one and all for helping to make this happen. If you'd like to keep abrest with more details, please keep in touch. FN
