Goa’s senior-most writer, Victor Rangel-Ribeiro, returned home to Porvorim last week just in time to celebrate his 101st birthday today, October 3, 2026.

On behalf of WhatsOnInGoa, The Goa Book Club, and the many writers he has encouraged and inspired over the years, here’s wishing him a very happy birthday — and offering our heartfelt thanks for all that he has given to Goa’s literary life.

Attached is a copy of the e-book released a year ago, when VRR reached the remarkable milestone of 100.

Hello Frederick

What an admirable book you have produced to honour Victor! It is a perfect blend of words and photos to inform the reader what Victor’s life has been as a writer, editor, literary critic and musician. I have enjoyed his writing, his novel Tivolem set in Porvorim and Saligao, where he was born and educated, and most of all his short stories especially his story Loving Aysha wherein he skilfully transforms his broken first love into beautiful fiction. I recommend this story to any writer interested in transforming a lived experience into art.

WOW, that’s a lot I have said. That is because you have produced an ebook worthy of admiration and praise. Thanks again FN for keeping me informed and then some for all these years I have known you.

Warmly

Ben
