Crimes of Passion: When desire turns deadly

What drove navyman Capt Emile Jerome to fly all the way from Cochin to Mumbai in a late night flight only to throw his fledgling career away with each thrust of the knife into the hapless TV executive Neeraj Grover? Did Goa beach shack bartender Samson D’Souza really murder British teenager Scarlett Keeling who he was last seen getting cosy with on the sands of Goa’s Anjuna beach? Why did Santosh Singh bludgeon to death the hip and attractive Priyadarshini Mattoo whom he had declared his undying love for?

Gerard de Souza, a journalist by profession, with an eye for details and a meticulous commitment to the ‘facts’ of each case, recounts each ‘crime’ in this blow by blow account of eleven stories written in the plain-speaking language of a journalist. The stories have been put together digging through court records, newspaper reports and speaking to those connected to the crime.

Love, lust, obsession and passion, a heady mix come to a boil in this brisk book about the lives, loves and loss of eleven crimes of passion’ some of which earned headlines while others lay buried in the inside pages of local newspapers, their victims undeserving of primetime space.
