Fundação Oriente is pleased to announce the 6th edition of its short
story competition. The Fundação Oriente Short Story Competition
(FOSSC) aims to revive storytelling tradition by fostering original
writing and supporting the cultural and linguistic diversity of Goa.
ELIGIBILITY
1. The Competition is open to persons 18 years and above who reside in
Goa. Both amateur and professional writers (including previous
winners) are eligible.
2. Parents, siblings, children, spouses of members of the Jury of the
FOSSC 2021 are not eligible for this competition.
LANGUAGE
Short stories can be written in Konkani (Devnagiri/Romi), Marathi,
Portuguese and English.
THEME
1. The works submitted for the Competition should be Goa centric,
featuring Goa or Goans through place, people or predicament.
WORKSHOP
1. A Short Story Writing Workshop will be held as part of the FOSSC,
aiming to furnish in terested participants with development and
editing skills to better prepare their stories for publishing. Though
not compulsory it is expected that participants will submit their
stories to the Competition.
2. The Workshop will be conducted from 23rd to the 25th of April 2021
(Friday: 3hours, Sat urday: 6 hours, Sunday: 3 hours) at Fundação
Oriente Delegation in Fontainhas, Panjim.
3. The Workshop will be free, however prior registration is required
as the seats will be limited.
4. The use of masks, hand sanitizer and social distancing norms will
be compulsory.
JURY SELECTION
The Jury will comprise 4 members selected by Fundação Oriente taking
into consideration their language expertise and experience in the
field of writing.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
1. At the first stage, each member of the jury will select the 10
stories s/he considers the best.
2. In the next round, from among the individual jury members'
selections, the jury will shortlist 25 of the best stories. Each of
these 25 stories will have the approval of at least 2 members of the
jury. These stories will then be eligible for publication by Fundação
Ori ente.
3. From the 25 shortlisted stories, the prize winners will be
unanimously selected by the jury members.
4. The decisions of the Jury will be final.
TIME-FRAME
1. The Competition will be announced in April 2021.
2. The Short Story Workshop will be held from 23rd to the 25th of
April 2021.
2. Entries for FOSSC 2021 will be accepted between 15th and 30th July
2021 only.
3. The shortlisted stories eligible for the prizes will be declared on
30th November 2021.
4. The Winners of FOSSC 2021 will be declared at a function to be held
on 10th December 2021.
5. The winning and shortlisted stories will be translated into English
and published in an Anthology in 2022. Fundação Oriente will be free
to publish the selected stories without further authorization of the
author.
SUBMISSIONS FOR THE COMPETITION
1. All works, whether in Konkani, Marathi, Portuguese or English, must
be original and un published, and shall consist of a maximum of 3000
words.
2. The story should be submitted as a Word document with text typed in
Times New Ro man, 12 pt font size (for roman script)/ Mangal Unicode,
12 pt font size (for Devnagiri) and double spacing between lines.
Handwritten or printed submissions will not be accepted.
3. All submissions must be accompanied by an Entry Form. Entry forms
are available on request to
foss...@gmail.com or collected from
Fundação Oriente office, Panjim.
4. Participants must submit their application by email to
foss...@gmail.com as an at tachment along with the Entry Form.
5. Name of the participant should strictly not appear anywhere on the
submitted story. This is important because stories are distributed
among the jury members with a code number, without any identification
of the participant. Entries with any identification (name/address)
written on submitted story will be disqualified.
PRIZES
Prizes for winner short stories are as follows:
1st : Rs.20,000/- The Alban Couto Prize
2nd: Rs.15,000/-
3rd: Rs.10,000/-
The Jury will decide whether or not to award a part or all the prizes.
The Winners will be intimated as soon as they are declared and
posteriorly announced on social media channels.
