Simple and Goa-specific things people can do on Book Lovers’ Day (August 9 every year):
1. Visit a bookshop — Spend an hour browsing rather than buying; discover a Goan author or an old book you've never heard of.
2. Go to a library — Visit your local library and spend some quiet time reading.
3. Read a Goan book — Pick up a novel, memoir, history, poetry collection or cookbook by a Goan writer.
4. Read somewhere beautiful — Take a book to a shady spot by the river, a village pond, or the beach, and read for an hour.
5. Exchange a book — Give a favourite book to a friend and ask them to give you one in return.
6. Rediscover your bookshelf — Pull out a book you bought years ago but never got around to reading. Today is the day to start it.
7. Visit a heritage site with a book — Combine reading with a visit to an old Goan shrine, house or heritage village, especially if your book is about Goa's history.
8. Attend a literary event — Look for a book launch, poetry reading, author talk, literary discussion or cultural programme happening nearby.
9. Read in Konkani or Portuguese — Make the day a little more Goan by reading something in Konkani (Roman or Devanagari) or Portuguese.
10. Give a book to someone who doesn't read much — Choose an accessible, enjoyable book and give it to a friend, neighbour, child or young person. The best way to celebrate books is to put one into somebody else's hands.
