The Out-of-Context Book Club will be hosting a discussion on Bina Nayak’s novel, Goagram on 18th May 2024, 5PM at the Broadway Book Shop, Panjim.
A young fashion designer Madhur Chopra aka Maddie escapes COVID infested Delhi to tranquil Goa with dreams of becoming a famous fashion influencer. Maddie starts living as a paying guest in a crumbling but glorious Goan mansion; Casa Coutinho. Maddie loves to vlog, and initially comes forth as a typical pesky tourist, infringing on the privacy of the locals. Her life is a heady mix of Insta likes and followers until; a horrifying experience compels her to take digital Sanyaas. With time Maddie bounces back, and on her road to normalcy strikes an unusual friendship with a freelance white-hat.
Goagram is a story of resilience and reinvention, with a grim reminder that dark dangers lurk behind the seductive glamour of the digital world.
The Book Club will be in conversation with graphic designer Bina Nayak who moonlights as an author. Bina loves tattoos and swimming. This is her second book.
The event is free and open to all.
