Hi Augusto
The link you gave didn't load for me. But I searched and found the
paper, the html link is given below.

I have not finished reading Patil's paper, but I was intrigued by the
Fanonian paradigm that Patil mentions at the start. I read about
Frantz Fanon and his book Wretched of the Earth (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wretched_of_the_Earth). It is
interesting to note that Jean-Paul Sartre interpreted Fanon's work as
a call for violence against colonisers.
Fanon's study of the role of language and the role of the
lumpenproletariat seems relevant to me in today's Goa. Do the
politicians of today use the lumpenproletariat to achieve their goals?
Aren't we all lumpen to some degree, as in dispossessed or
disempowered in some way or the other? We are all certainly being used
in some way or the other in this modern circus of neo-colonisation. A
Fanonian evaluation may be due for present times too.
Many episodes in Goan history make for delightful studies in
sociology. The current Medium of Instruction issue is one of them. I
hope some professor or student is making meticulous notes on the
developments unfolding. Given the Goan pscho-pathology as a constant,
it may even be possible to derive a reasonably accurate prognosis for
the problem.
Regards
Jose
PS: My apologies to Ben for having brought up a non-Goan book, but
that's the way our literary thoughts meander! Will read Augusto's link
in totality and comment later. Hi Joao Paulo, good to read you on this
forum.
