A book on the Chapel of St Joaquim at Borda-Margao was released during the Easter midnight service at Borda on April 5, 2026.
ABOUT THE BOOK
The Chapel of St Joaquim at Borda, believed to be the only chapel or church in Goa dedicated to the saint so far, is a landmark monument serving parishioners in Borda-Margao for 240 years.
The history of the Borda Chapel had been first documented by Jose Ligorio da Natividade Dias—a descendant of the family which donated land and money for the chapel—in his Portuguese booklet in 1928.
A need was felt not only to have the Portuguese booklet translated into English but also to provide additional information on Borda and its Chapel for the benefit of people connected with Borda in particular and readers in general.
The book is a collaborative effort to provide a brief and fascinating history of Borda and of its Chapel, excerpts from the original book in Portuguese, photos of the chapel, and a special feature on an artist and his unique frescoes in the Chapel, thereby preserving the rich heritage of the Chapel for posterity.
