Dear Frederick
I wonder whether this author, Sharmila Pais, is aware of a PhD thesis on Canarins in the Rios do Cuamo in the 16th century, written by Dr Cyril Hromnik? It is very much in line with her description of local buttressing of the Portuguese empire, in this instance in the quest for gold in southern Africa, including what is now Mozambique.
With your extrordinary skills, you might be able to unearth this thesis, which was written for Syracuse University in the US in the mid 1960s. It is based on meticulous research in archives in Goa, Mozambique and Portugal and should be of great interest to Dr Pais.
Canarins is an early name for Goans that was used by the Portuguese.
Best wishes
Jeanne

How interesting Jeanne. Don't you have a copy of the thesis? It would be worth thinking about publishing it or putting online.

That is an article. The thesis is this one:

Unfortunately, apparently only available to Syracuse students.

Sandra, I think it's already online. You only have to google it. I used 'Hromnik' and 'Canarins' as key words.
I'll try and post the links. Syracuse University also has it online.

If you keep repeating this, soon I too will believe that some magical findability skills have been bestowed on me ... Please note that Sandra comes from the world of library sciences and the history of ideas. My field is plagiarism of ideas, aka journalism :-)
