This is the biography of Anthony (Tony) deMello SJ, the Christian guru
with Eastern leanings who taught people the path to enlightenment. His
books and audio-video recordings continue to inspire his followers.
However, there was no comprehensive biography of the man who passed
away in New York 25 years ago. The gap has now been filled by his
brother, Bill deMello, who has collected mountains of information,
memories, opinions and facts and arranged them into a sensible and
sensitive narrative of the life and times of a man who was brilliant,
unassuming and a firm taskmaster. It presents little-known details
about Tony's childhood and his spiritual evolution.

Happy Wanderer – A Tribute to My Brother, (and edited by Clifford W.
DeSilva) was launched on 22nd April 2012 at a small function at St.
Peter's Church Complex, Bandra, Mumbai, India.
Instead of the usual method of a ribbon being cut by some prominent
person, Bill chose to have the book 'launched' by Tony deMello
himself.
Bill first welcomed the select gathering and thanked all who had
labored to make the launch day a success and explained that the book
was a tribute to his brother and was written with the view to
promoting his books especially among the young. Bill then played a
rare, unpublished recording of Tony celebrating Mass on his 50th
Birthday. Relevant sections of this recording of Tony speaking and
also singing while accompanying himself on the guitar were played.
Tony's own words explained the meaning of 'Happy Wanderer ' (the song)
as a good example of sanyas. We are merely passing through this world
so we need the minimum.
That was it. There were none of the usual speeches by 'eminent'
persons and so on that accompany such occasions. Simplicity itself.
The book is published by Gujarat Sahitya Prakash, Anand who are the
authentic publishers of all of Tony’s books in India

I would have certainly attended the function at St Peters
How was info, about the function communicated?
Is there some place I can pick up a couple of books ?

Dear Mr. Menezes,
I've no idea. I happened to see it by chance when I received an
unsolicited mail from the Anthony de Mello Institute in Navelim
announcing some courses. It contained the information. If you are in
Goa you'll probably get the book from Pauline sisters bookshop at 18
June Road next to Bombay Bazar, Panjim. In Mumbai you'll probably get
it from Examiner bookshop in Dalal Street. I'd read what you wrote
about him in your columns. I too wrote about him in the Examiner some
years back. I think yesterday was his 25th death anniversary, if I'm
not mistaken.
