The Konkani paper from OHeraldo and Gulab, not read it during Fr. Freddy's times, were hard to read because of "new Konkani", as I see it. Maybe, Romi Konkani has progressed since my time of reading Cine Times, Goa Mail, Goa Times, and, to some extent, Uzvadd. Some of the new words used are tongue-twisters to me. I find Poinnari bit easy to read. If the new generation adapts well to the way Gulab is written or edited, so much the better. I heard many so-called knowledgeable Konkani writers in Bombay thrash Goa Times for the way Dr. Simon Fernandes wrote or edited it. Fausto da Costa was then working or volunteering as "compositor" there, if memory serves me correctly. I was frequent visitor to Ave Maria, but it was in same pattern of Goa Times. Goan Sports Weekly, for whatever it was, didn't qualify as a good or noteworthy paper, though it carried an English section where I often wrote. What surprises me is that Goencho Avaaz has been shut down, and Poinnari is now an e-magazine. If makes me ask if there's a future for Romi Konkani papers?
