hi Augustoglad you have BandraBuggers. heres some more which I hope you'll enjoyOn Mon, Apr 20, 2020 at 11:21 PM augusto pinto <pint...@gmail.com> wrote:I thought I had this Beyond Bandra book but when I went to check I found that I didn't, but I had a book called BANDRABUGGERS by cle...@gmail.com. Yeah that's the information given about the author; and the publisher is given as The East India Company +91 - 9820074884What is the USP of BANDRABUGGERS? Well I thought it's the use of an English patois used by the Christian residents of Bandra, (although I guess it's one shared by others of the locality of different religions who share the same schools) and who communicate to each other in this variety of English. The book consists of a series of 54 short pieces written in more or less standard English but which threatens to move to this dialect at any second.PUTRU MEN BUGGER is the first piece which is the more extreme version of the Bandra patois. PUTRU MEN BUGGER is what Bandra boys shout when playing football when they mean to say, "Now pass the ball thru the defenders between their legs over their heads anywhere, just get it to me where nobody is covering me and I can score a goal" (sic). Not all of the pieces are like this. However they get their audience of mainly Catholic readers from Mumbai happy because the subjects are mostly about themselves, their relatives, their neighbours and others who they're familiar with.Yvonne, an old lady who has a fall, a FHC (first holy communion); a barber; kachrawalla, doodwalla, jaripuranawalla, machiwalla and such like are some of the for them familiar inhabitants of the book. There's a rough quality about the prose which I find difficult to describe offhand. Still it's a book worth considering if one wants to think about Bandra. While searching for the Beyond Bandra book I also came across Bloodline Bombay by Godfrey Joseph Pereira who had come to Goa around 2014 for a session at XCHR I think when I bought this book because my copy is signed by the author. It's a novel by this East Indian guy whose narrator lives in a gaon which means a village which is where these East Indian Catholics who were original residents of Bombay used to stay. The language used by the author is the putru men bugger sort and spread all over the book. I haven't reread the book (although I faintly remember it was fairly amusing). However I don't have this Beyond Bandra book. Is it possible to get it in Goa? What's it about?AugustoOn Wed, Apr 15, 2020 at 9:16 PM Edwin Fernandes <eds...@gmail.com> wrote:Dear Leroy,Glad to know that you read my Book Beyond Bandra. The link for the game is http://sbsi.unigoa.ac.in/shabdarth Here the players will be given different words and they have to provide the meaning, synonyms, grammatical category and examples for those words. This serves as a part of an initiative taken by Goa University to enhance the Konkani WordNet (http://konkaniwordnet.unigoa.ac.in) by increasing its vocabulary. Konkani WordNet provides information about a word from different perspectives also giving the relationships between words. This will help in the compilation of all the Konkani words and prevent the authentic Konkani words that are not prevalent in the day to day conversations from becoming extinct. Kindly play this game and extend your support towards this initiative.Sent via
