Hello, I'm toying with the idea of developing an IDE in Go--do you know if go.uik would be an acceptable candidate for the GUI for such a project?

In other words, does it
* Produce a native-looking GUI on modern Linux distros?
* Support something analogous to a TextView widget?
* Support formatted text in said widget?

If so, I wouldn't mind contributing to the project as time allows (once I'm more familiar).

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig,

At the moment, go.uik is strictly experimental. I'd be glad to have you as a contributor, but I cannot recommend (with a straight face) that you use it for a real project.

I would like to make an IDE with it, one day. I have some design ideas for how that could go - perhaps we can chat about it one day?

Quite possibly. If I get any time this week I'll check out UIK and, if it looks useful/fun/promising I'll contribute.

Could you tell me if it's it designed for any specific platforms? Will it attempt to be native or will it have it's own look, like Java's Swing?

It runs on any platforms that have a github.com/skelterjohn/go.wde backend, which is currently at least os x, linux, and windows. It will have it's own look, probably. I'm not really a design guy :) so I'm going to lean heavily on other people for stuff there, when it's time.
