Unable to Reach Stage Details from VSM

Hi everyone,

In our current/legacy GoCD production environment (v19.8.0), I am able to reach the stage details page by clicking on the coloured bar on the VSM page. Clicking the bar on the pipeline dashboard has the same effect.

With our new (v24.4.0) environment, clicking on the bar on the dashboard brings up a nice modal (I think that's the right term) with details about the pipeline instance, including links to the stage details page and job console logs. But clicking on the bar in the VSM seems to do nothing.

This makes it considerably more difficult to find the correct upstream pipeline stage when we find ourselves needing to rebuild artifacts that have been purged to save space in the GoCD artifact repository.

Is this a bug, or was it an intentional design decision? Or is the functionality still there and I am just missing something?

Thanks,
Jason Smyth

I believe de-emphasising the stage details was an intentional design decision insofar as there was various discussion through the UI rewrite about actually retiring the stage details page entirely (abandoned/paused).

However clicking on the stage bar segments while on a VSM view is also supposed to display the same modal as with the dashboard (except the segments/progress don't live update like the dashboard). Clicking around now on a VSM I seem to note it sometimes works and then stops working for a given stage after a modal has been closed once - THAT is definitely a bug.

Is that what you are referring to? You can open a model once but then not again until you manually reload the page, and only once for a given stage?

Am I following the problem you are observing or missing something else you are expecting the VSM to do?

Can you raise a bug at https://github.com/gocd/gocd/issues with what you are seeing with the VSM and any pattern you discover about when the modal does not open on the VSM view stages? The bug I note above I can replicate in Firefox, but it's conceptually possible it's different in other browsers.

Thanks - as discussed separately the issue I mentioned above along with your specific issue (pipelines with period in the name) is fixed for GoCD 25.1.0.

Should be before the end of Jan as I've started linking a minimal release cadence to quarterly Java security releases - unless something more urgent comes up.

https://github.com/gocd/gocd/pull/13393
https://github.com/gocd/gocd/pull/13399

You can play with https://hub.docker.com/r/gocdexperimental/gocd-server/tags (v25.1.0-20018 onwards) or a test-drive release if you are enthusiastic.

Hi Chad,

The behaviour I am seeing is slightly different, in that I am never able to open the stage overview modal at all.

I created the issue on GitHub and we can continue discussion there:

Thank you for your help,
Jason Smyth

In case you didn't notice, this (and some related VSM widget issues) should be resolved in GoCD 25.1.0. Thanks for the help getting to the bottom of this!
