I know this is a bit skimpy, but I'm no great expert on gnus/emacs.

I think | pipes exactly what is in the *Article* buffer, so if you
pressed C-u g you get the entire article, but if you have g:ed an
article, you should only get a "brief" version. So do C-u g | if you
want to pipe all the headers.
