GNU time: incorrect results

Hi all.
It looks to me that GNU time is too old for some uses.
For example on a openSUSE 11.3 box (64bit), I get incorrect RSS
results (4 times too large, compared to top/htop).
What alternatives exist?
(I know memtime, which seems to be dated, too.)
Any help appreciated
