An introduction to Scala and functional programming

Note: Registration will open on April 25, 2013 Thursday 6:30pm

Scala is a statically-typed, multi-paradigm language
targeting the Java Virtual Machine with good support for
functional programming (FP). FP is a radical approach to
programming in which programs are constructed without the
use of side effects like mutation. In this talk we'll
introduce Scala the language and demonstrate its features,
and we'll use Scala as a vehicle to introduce functional
programming and some of its basic techniques. This talk
will assume no prior knowledge of Scala or functional
programming. Experience with software development is
assumed.
