I manage to compile the gcc compiler without the GNU Linker.

However, when I tried again to build again with GNU linker, i.e with
./configure --with-gnu-ld for gcc 2.6.3 configuration and GNU ld
installed, the following happened:

cc .... cccp ....

ld: cannot open -lc: No such file or directory.

What's up with that? Can anyone help? I appreciate the help, Thank You.

I'd appreciate an explanation concerning "ld" also. I posted a
question about and a kind soul reply directly that I shouldn't be
using ld on SUNOS or Solaris. If this is true I would have thought the
docs for either ld or gcc would have made a reference.

As it is, I've installed it (I hope correctly) and most packages
compile with no problems but a few don't and make a reference to ld.
As you can probably tell by now I don't know much about compilers. I
just try to follow the install directions and usually it works out
fine. Thanks for any help.
