We're sad to say that the Second Conference on Freely Redistributable
Software will not take place in San Francisco, CA, USA, on February
20-21, 1997 as we had planned. The problem was simple: not enough
people had registered as of the date we had to commit to large fixed
expenses.

But we have not given up. We hope to reschedule the conference for
later this year, at a site in Silicon Valley on a weekend in May. We
will try to find less expensive facilities that will permit a lower
registration fee.

Before we finalize new arrangements, we ask YOU whether YOU want to
attend on either of the possible weekends. That way, we can be sure
that the rescheduled conference will really fly before we start
accepting passengers.

Sadly, the GAWK and Java tutorials can't be offered, due to scheduling
conflicts by their tutors. We hope to offer additional tutorials as
well as the tutorials on Guile, an Introduction to Linux, Distribution
Channels, qmail, Emacs, and DejaGNU. See URL:
http://www.gnu.ai.mit.edu/conferences/97san-fran/announcement.html for
descriptions.

Sadly, the papers on Bounded Pointers, Threads for FreeBSD, FTP
Search, and Id-Utils can't be offered, due to scheduling conflicts by
their presenters. We hope to offer additional papers as well as the
other papers listed on
http://www.gnu.ai.mit.edu/conferences/97san-fran/announcement.html.
