I have just installed emacs version 21.3.1 on my new windows xp machine,
and I am having trouble making it work as well as my old emacs version
19. For example, I have found no file runemacs.exe, so I get an
annoying dos window when I invoke emacs. The Emacs FAQ only refers to
version 20 when speaking of runemacs. Has it been removed from
distribution? Is there a replacement? What are my options?

It has not been removed - normally, it is included in the binary
versions for nt as well as if you build emacs from source. If you
don't want to look for a binary that includes this .exe (or build your
own) I can send you mine.

Thanks, Tom, but after searching several binary versions, I finally
found the runemacs.exe file in version 20.7. I really think this is a
useful little utility, and I would hope that it would be included in
future versions.
