Hi,

I tried to get the sources for the Windows port of Emacs 21.3 on the
official ftp site (ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/windows), but I can't
find it.

In fact, I can't find emacs-21.3-src.tar.gz anywhere!

Could you guys check this out and let me know what's going on?

Kind Regards,
Gustav Bertram

NOTE: I'm forwarding this to the Emacs mailinglist. Those on the list,
please respond directly to me - I'm not on the mailinglist.

Wrong URL. Try this instead:

ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/windows

GNU/Linux Platform - emacs-21.3.tar.gz. -> ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/
W32 - emacs-21.3-fullbin-i386.tar.gz. -> ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/windows/

I will update this in GNU Emacs w32 FAQ page.

Thanks for reporting.

Yes. The file emacs-21.3-src.tar.gz is missing at
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/windows/.

Please get the latest version from CVS -
Please read the following pages for more info.

- http://ourcomments.org/Emacs/w32-build-emacs.html

Also, does anyone know what happened to #emacs-21.3-src.tar.gz# file ?
Is it being rm or mv to other place ?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm sorry, but that's not correct.

I downloaded "emacs-21.3-fullbin-i386.tar.gz" and it does not contain any C
source files, nor the INSTALL file.

The needed file does in fact seem to be emacs-21.3-src.tar.gz and it's
missing. It is referenced not only in the FAQ, but also in the README file
in ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/windows/ !

I'm not (yet) willing to download the 19MB Linux tarball for Emacs, as I
don't think it would contain Win32 installation instructions anyway.

Regards,
Gustav Bertram

If you are downloading the binary package, you don't need the INSTALL
file. Just unpack the archive where you want to install Emacs, and
add the bin subdirectory to your Path. Optionally, also create a
desktop icon that is a shortcut to bin\runemacs.exe. That's it!

If you need INSTALL for something else, please explain what is it that
you are looking for.
