Maybe if one were to explicitly call garbage-collect in some hook
before entering an often core-dumping area of mystery code... or if
one were to tinker with gc-cons-threshold, one might reduce core-dumps
as a halfway solution for us who, e.g., even recompiling a
non-stripped emacs is a major chore...
Personally I'm wondering if this will help on 18.55 on Sys V Amdahl
where there are usually 1 or 2 dangerous newsgroups near the top of my
.newsrc that I often coredump on in GNUS...
