Fire is so important for the whole process. It is the
transformative substAnce. It symbolizes passion, emotion, strong
feeling. It is this that brings the big changes to our lives. The
alchemists would never allow the fire under their retort to go out;
it must be kept burning constantly because it alone could transform
the contents of that retort which was the alchemist himself. The
fire was often tended by his "soror mystica", his mystical sister
whp embodied all that emotion in her feminine nature. We get that
fire to blazing wherever we find it cast , if we will but engage it
wholeheartedly with feels of awe, wonder, love and longing, whatever,
from the feminine repertoire. And the world now extends ffar out
into the cosmos. Remember when the astronaughts first sent the
picture of the moon ? An Italian poet set the fire blazing in space
with his little poem:
WHAT ARE YOU DOING, SILENT EARTH ?
TELL ME,
wWHAT ARE YOU DOING
IN HEAVEN ?

Fire is oft used to designate Spirit or the rational portion of the mind.
Basically I see it as saying that he is trying to get the world to think as
it were.

Fire is a symbol of purification. In a fire, only the purest elements
remain.

I like this one! To me, it means Jesus is bringing Truth into the world,
"planting" it and encouraging it's growth.

Truth or something of beleif beleive in? Either way I also
imo, think he says it needs to be nurtured until such time
as it grows itself...
maybe something like the whole"cosmic conciousness"
movement... or as the gnostics beleive, the idea that the
Kingdom is near b/c it iniside us...?
For whatever reason and I don't know why that idea keeps
popping in my mind....

hi tom, rosalie, everyone.
yes, fire is also an alchemical symbol isn't it? the element of fire
is transformative as well as destructive. and what rosalie said about
nurturing until it grows I also like the way the fire is being
guarded so it won't go out...wasn't the symbol for the spiritus
sanctus a dancing tongue of fire, as well as a dove?

Truth is irrespective of belief. Many don´t believe truth for example yet
they believe that which is false. Like those believing the earth is flat. Or
like my demonstrating 11 sided paper to those who believe it can only be 2
sided ;) (old curiosity show oddity). Or those that believe cats can´t talk
(have interesting video in that respect which includes what I jokingly refer
to as a cat prayer were the cat cays "Oh my dog. Oh long John. Oh Long
Johnson. Oh Don Piano. Why I Eyes Ya. All the live long day.¨). In fact,
just type in ¨talking cat¨ in google and see what you get

This reminds me of the story that when the Buddha was asked the meaning of
Enlightenment he just picekd a flower and smelt it.

Yeah, while thinking to himself "Why am I wasting my time talking to
these morons when I can be enjoying the fragrance of this wonderful
flower instead?"

Hi Ann,
There seems to me to be a very important reason why Jesus answers questions
vaguely or not at all.
It is because he is not directing us to find answers, but to find our selves, or
even our Self in the seeking of the answer.
Whenever we think we have found the answer, we stop seeking don't we?
I find this verity experienced in all true teachers. They teach a precept, and
maybe after some time, I think I get it - I see it, experience it in myself and
the world/worlds around me. And when I approach the teacher with the good news
of me getting it, the response isn't Wow, you figured it out! Now go in peace,
it is always Well that isn't exactly it...consider this and this and this. And
I come to find that none of my realizations will ever be exactly it! Because
what a true teacher is guiding us towards is not mental concepts, or
intellectual ideas, but to find a path, a middle way as some call it, that
cannot be explained in words.
In other words, to see how all things are true, but also false for none in and
of themselves is The Way.
Shalom.

Hi Sheryl, Everyone,
All kidding aside, I think this is the message. Nobody can give you the
answer. You must find it yourself.
