Thu Oct 2, 2003 7:21 am, I said:
The Christ has placed a spark in your mind and will keep nudging
until it grows.

Fri Oct 3, 2003 11:41 pm, Roadhouse Jack said:
Fire is so important for the whole process. It is the
transformative substAnce. It symbolizes passion, emotion, strong
feeling. It is this that brings the big changes to our lives. The
alchemists would never allow the fire under their retort to go out;
it must be kept burning constantly because it alone could transform
the contents of that retort which was the alchemist himself. The
fire was often tended by his "soror mystica", his mystical sister
whp embodied all that emotion in her feminine nature. We get that
fire to blazing wherever we find it cast , if we will but engage it
wholeheartedly with feels of awe, wonder, love and longing, whatever,
from the feminine repertoire. And the world now extends ffar out
into the cosmos. Remember when the astronaughts first sent the
picture of the moon ? An Italian poet set the fire blazing in space
with his little poem:
WHAT ARE YOU DOING, SILENT EARTH ?
TELL ME,
wWHAT ARE YOU DOING
IN HEAVEN ?

Truth or something of beleif beleive in? Either way I also
imo, think he says it needs to be nurtured until such time
as it grows itself...

maybe something like the whole"cosmic conciousness"
movement... or as the gnostics beleive, the idea that the
Kingdom is near b/c it iniside us...?

For whatever reason and I don't know why that idea keeps
popping in my mind....

hi tom, rosalie, everyone.
yes, fire is also an alchemical symbol isn't it? the element of fire
is transformative as well as destructive. and what rosalie said about
nurturing until it grows I also like the way the fire is being
guarded so it won't go out...wasn't the symbol for the spiritus
sanctus a dancing tongue of fire, as well as a dove?

Truth is irrespective of belief. Many don´t believe truth for example yet
they believe that which is false. Like those believing the earth is flat. Or
like my demonstrating 11 sided paper to those who believe it can only be 2
sided ;) (old curiosity show oddity). Or those that believe cats can´t talk
(have interesting video in that respect which includes what I jokingly refer
to as a cat prayer were the cat cays "Oh my dog. Oh long John. Oh Long
Johnson. Oh Don Piano. Why I Eyes Ya. All the live long day.¨). In fact,
just type in ¨talking cat¨ in google and see what you get

I believe he meant a fire of Gnosticsm not Literalism.

Constantly the apostles ask him what something means..

And he replies vaguely or not at all..

To me IMO,,, it means, think about it yourself. and learn from your
experiences..:)

This reminds me of the story that when the Buddha was asked the meaning of
Enlightenment he just picekd a flower and smelt it.

Yeah, while thinking to himself "Why am I wasting my time talking to
these morons when I can be enjoying the fragrance of this wonderful
flower instead?"

Hi Ann,

There seems to me to be a very important reason why Jesus answers questions
vaguely or not at all.

It is because he is not directing us to find answers, but to find our selves, or
even our Self in the seeking of the answer.

Whenever we think we have found the answer, we stop seeking don't we?

I find this verity experienced in all true teachers. They teach a precept, and
maybe after some time, I think I get it - I see it, experience it in myself and
the world/worlds around me. And when I approach the teacher with the good news
of me getting it, the response isn't Wow, you figured it out! Now go in peace,
it is always Well that isn't exactly it...consider this and this and this. And
I come to find that none of my realizations will ever be exactly it! Because
what a true teacher is guiding us towards is not mental concepts, or
intellectual ideas, but to find a path, a middle way as some call it, that
cannot be explained in words.

In other words, to see how all things are true, but also false for none in and
of themselves is The Way.

Shalom.

Hi Sheryl, Everyone,
All kidding aside, I think this is the message. Nobody can give you the
answer. You must find it yourself.

Hi Ken

I wont be posting here until Thurs.
Broke my glasses yesterday and have to wait a week for a new pair.
I'm wearing an old pair for the time being but I can't read with them, I'm having to use the lens out of an even older pair as a magnifying glass to type this.
Should be back to normal later next week.
Have a good one.

Fire burns on Earth only by the grace of Air.
Air (Spirit) is interesting in that it both fuels the fire and can blow
it out.
Water must be protected against, guarded against, or the fire will go out.

Fire is thus the opposite of Water as Jesus is the opposite of John.

This is my present understanding of these 2 lines -
The world is me. The fire cast into the world is my battle to correct the negative aspects of my egoism.
This battle between what I see as badness within me and the desire not to have it in me I see as the fire.
Slowly after much distress, pain and anguish at not being able to overcome the egoism, there is a crying out to the Creator for help along with a strong desire to be rid of egoism and to enter into a spitiual existance, this is when the fire blazes and spirituality starts to be revealed.

Hi Yechida,
I come up with different meanings for this saying at different times. Sometimes it strikes me one way and sometimes another, but right now I see it as a spark of understanding that lands in our minds. The guarding it means the Christ spirit within brings our attention back to it ever now and then so we don't completely forget about it until finally it grows, until finally we get it.

Hi Ken
Yes, Its one of those verses that perhaps doesn't have a hard and fast meaning. What we get out of it depends on our current state.
If I wrote on it next week perhaps it wouldn't read anything like what I wrote last week.

Hi Ken

I'm back and have a new pair of glasses, Its great to be able to see clearly again, I just wish I could see the meaning of these sayings as clear.
It was interesting to read what I said last time round, this time I'm seeing it differently.

The fire is desire and the blazing is putting action onto the desire.

what this says to me is that
everybody is given the same opportunity,
it is just that some don't prepare their garden properly.

some folks are too shallow, too "main stream" media driven,
too bounced around by the latest fads,
too choked back by everything they have to have and accomplish.

some folks have gotten themselves off the beaten path,
dug out all of the rocks of antiquated ideas and misconceptions,
weeded out all of the demands on attention,
and are ready for the Seed of Gnosis to take root.
