Hi Bren,
Welcome back! I don't think you've missed much we seem to have been a
quiet group lately, maybe you can spark a renaissance?
I've just finished reading the Grandville follow up, Mon Amouor which I
nabbed as it came in new to the library.
When I heard Bryan Talbot talk at the last (hopefully not the last
ever!) Blam! event in Leicester I was surprised at the range of very
erudite high culture inspirations and pastiches he'd worked into it. I
looked in this volume but I'm afraid I could only spot the low cultural
ones again; Donald Duck, Sherlock Holmes and the Churchill Dog. Oh Yus.
The fault lies with me and not the author but I loved it anyway.
Although I borrowed it I'm seriously considering buying it because it's
such a lovely thing to have and hold (steady on!). My three year old was
fooled, he asked me if it was something I'd had as a little boy when he
saw me reading it.
I'm looking forward to Bren's Manga Group report. And to pinching all
the ideas contained in it.
Carl.
