I figure maybe the Orbi speedtest tool is slow, but even if i connect a computer to the Orbi Satallite via ethernet cable, i get like 560/700 through the backhaul using speedtest.net on the computer. So i again see a fast upload, but the same "limited" download speed.
Also, i just tried connecting my laptop directly to the Orbi using an ethernet cable and ran speedtest.net. The results were like 475/475. I used the laptop's gigabit dock so it should be fast, but its sort of old so who knows. I did confirm a 1000M/full link in the Orbi admin panel. I should prob go test it directly to the FIOS ONT to see how fast it can go.
I've analyzed it a bit and it looks as an IPC deadlock in the download manager thread. The app can't even be closed and the downloader can't be stopped in that failed state - it looks as a failing state-machine design.

You may need a multi-thread download utility, like axel. Or P2P download software, such as BitTorrent, eMule. After you have installed the basic Ubuntu system, you may also try apt-fast to download individiual packages faster.
At the end of the day yum is just a glorfied http downloader, so you can determine the actual URL that it's using to download a package and attempt to do the same using curl or wget and see if the slowness is being induced by the mirror site or something else local to your system.

My colleague believed it's because of the physical distance while I don't think it matters. My understanding is once you have done the initial handshake and the data flow has started, it doesn't matter where the server is located and the result should be almost the same. Am I missing something here? How does it really work?
