Trust Shanthi Vanam (www.trustshanthivanam.org) is a home for mentally ill people. The facility is situated in the outskirts of Trichy, near J.J College of Engineering. We visited the place on 25th of June.
After our interaction we came to know that the place is in need of the following things. I have attached a number (amount that seems to be fit according to my estimation) & for things that I dont have an idea, I've simply left them blank.
1) Dining Tables for 20 persons. One or Two long tables would do. - Rs4,000/-
2) Uniform Dresses for 103 inmates. - Rs400X100 = Rs 40, 000/- (for one set.)
3) Music System (1 DVD Player, 8 large speakers & 50 metre of wire) - Rs6350/- [Rs2000 + Rs4000 (8 X 500) + Rs350 (50 X 7)]
4) Cots for 50 persons -
5) Plants - To plant in & around the place. The home looks extremely dry as it is in the dry part of the land stretch between Dindigul & Trichy. Rs10-Rs20 X 50 = Rs750
6) Park - Play materials - Rs 10,000/-
7) Materials for pillow cover making. Pillow cover making is the vocational training that they impart to the rehabilitating inmates & it also helps them financially as they sell the same. - 25 metre of Cotton cloth every month.
8) Books for their daily reading session.
9) Grams for snacks - 40kg/month.
10) Mango or any other fruits - 100/week.
11) Banana - 200/week.
12) Soaps, Detergents.
Apart from the above mentioned things the place also needs support in their medical expenses. I will send a separate mail listing the name of the medicines that they are in need of.
Also they are seeking support(monetary & participation) in organising tours & visits to nearby places.
We have suggested the installation of Music systems & introduction of animals like Rabbits & birds in the small garden that is in front of the home.
If anyone of you are in a position to help with any of these, please reply ASAP.
