Im trying to restore backed up emails to a different account.  While the process works, I keep getting the same error message

"Cannot reach the Gmail server. Wait 1 seconds and retrying.
Disconnecting from Gmail Server and sleeping ..."

Is Gmail servers not responding after the initial connection?

Using the following command:
>gmvault restore em...@gmail.com --resume

Use gmvault-db located in Y:\GMvault\.

Authentication performed with Gmail XOAuth token.

Get XOAuth credential from C:\Users\******

Successfully read oauth credentials.

Connect to Gmail server.

Start emails restoration.

Restore emails in gmail account em...@gmail.com.
Read email info from Y:\GMvault\ gmvault-db.
Total number of elements to restore 11760.
Restart from gmail id 1386826368742727616.
Got all emails id left to restore. Still 9110 emails to do.

Restore email with id 1387749683804591613.
Cannot reach the Gmail server. Wait 1 seconds and retrying.
Disconnecting from Gmail Server and sleeping ...

You aren't perhaps using Avast anti-virus, are you?

They just had a new update to version 8; I was also in the middle of a restore and as soon as my system updated, GMvault gave me the same behavior.   Turn off Avast, all works (but of course you're unprotected).

no, on win8 so using the default security essentials
default firewall and AV on win 8 pro.

I was able to get some emails restored, but after a while gmvault stopped talking to google servers.

I also see a lot of emails dumped in quarantine.  How do I put them back into their folders in the db folder?

Hi Richard,

How is the restore going now ? Is it back to normal ?
If you wish to restore the emails that are in gmvault-db/quarantine just copy everything in one of the dir that is in gmvault-db/db/200y-mm (for example gmvault-db/db/2010-03). Best is to create gmvault-db/db/2001-01 and copy everything in it as you will know that these are the emails that have been quarantined.

Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks,
The Gmvault Developer

Hi Zoobert,

Thank you for your reply about the quarantine issue.  I shall try that.

As for the progress of the restoration, it has been slow, I found that if I cancel the restore and wait for whatever timer that the gmail servers have to expire... couple of hours, I can get a few thousand more emails restored.
This way I think I can slowly restore.

Can you point me in the direction of documentation on quarantine?  What is it's function and what are all the conditions that cause it?

Also is it possible to have gmvault stop when it fails after 4 tries to connect to server when gmail servers stop talking instead of moving files to quarantine?

Thanks for your help, I really like your program.  Its more informative than other things I have tried.

Regards,

Richard

I can confirm Avast 8.0.1483 with Scan SSL Connections on (Default) in the Mail Shield on will cause this problem of gmvault not being able to connect to Gmail's SSL IMAP servers.

If you disable 'Scan SSL Connections' (Avast->Security->Mail Shield->Settings->SSL Settings), gmvault works fine, and your Avast will not complain as the Mail Shield is not actually disabled completely, but you may want to re-think this if you need Incoming SSL Email scanning and don't have good anti malware on your email provider.

Thanks for pointing this out Alan as I was having that problem and was not able to use gmvault.
