I set up a comment form for a website using my gmail address as the
destination for the comments. A spammer seems to have stolen my gmail
email and is sending me 40 to 50 emails a day from my own email
address. How can this be stopped?

Yes, this in an unfortunate fact of modern spam "terrorism". Sorry
but that's the case with any e-mail address you have. The
companies/servers the spammer is using do nothing to validate the from
address, so they can fake anything they want to into it.

Like zack said, your email address was faked. My work email is faked
everyday...kind of fun seeing the kinds of emails these spammers are
sending out. I work in a specific industry (which is reflected in my
work email address) so any spam coming from that is easy to spot as
spam as they are definitely unrelated to the industry I work in.

To see where they are really coming from, click the Show Original link
(from the little down arrow in the top right of the email) and read
the headers. Usually its a spammer from Italy, Denmark, Asia, etc.
