Dear Sisters and Brothers of GMS,

Many of you have heard that the boiler at the Harambee campus of All Peoples is in dire shape. Though still running, the technicians say we’ll be lucky if it lasts another 3 weeks. We need to raise $50,000 to respond to this crisis (see below for the appeal sent to members and friends of the congregation). As of noon today, we are 1/4 of the way there.

To help with our fundraising efforts, the Riverwest Public House is throwing a benefit party for All Peoples on Sunday, February 28th at 7pm. It is a the “All Peoples Church Boilermaker Night!” with drink specials that benefit the boiler fund. Even if you don’t drink, there will be chances to donate and door prizes. Live music is being provided by Lake Park Lutheran’s Jeff Bray and Chris Hanson and All Peoples’ own Stu Dove from King Solomon and In Black N White.

The FB event for Boilermaker night is: https://www.facebook.com/events/910412992390644/.

Peace, Pastor Steve

All Peoples Church: Urgent Need

The boiler in our 110-year old building needs immediate replacement. Though it has doubled its life expectancy, current leaks and malfunctions have put it beyond repair. Church members are giving what they can, but the $50,000 cost of a new boiler is simply beyond our means. All of the following are at risk if we cannot heat our building:

Monday – Thursday: We hold Midday Prayers for Peace in the midst of a neighborhood that frequently faces violence.

Tuesday – Saturday: St. Vincent de Paul serves over 100 dinners to hungry, often homeless, people.

Mondays: 150 students and volunteers gather for tutoring and mentoring through Unity in Motion.

Tuesdays: The food pantry is stocked. A dozen girls gather with Pearls for Teen Girls.

Wednesdays: Isaiah 55 Ministries provide Bible Study, a community lunch, and food pantry access for 30 – 50 neighbors. Peeps Academy helps 10 students with homework. Thirty students come to confirmation and the high school youth group. The gospel choir rehearses.

Thursdays: Middle and high school Boys of Color gather for Roots Circle, a rite of passage. Worship leaders rehearse.

Saturdays: Kids Working To Succeed empowers 20 – 30 youth. Lil’ Sprouts gives Christian education to four to seven year olds.

Sundays: We gather for worship at 9 and 11. Women’s and Men’s groups have Bible Studies.

And then there are congregational small groups and meetings, the neighborhood block watch, and other community groups that use our space each and every week. Please help us live out the words of our Lord in Micah 6:8: to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.
