Hey folks - been doing some research for transportation to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Detroit next summer. My idea had been to take the Lake Express from Milwaukee to Muskegon, and then take a motor coach from Muskegon to Detroit. I'm getting a few more estimates, but it looks like the Lake Express option is on par for cost as a bus from Milwaukee area to Detroit. Lamers gave me a quote of $6600 round trip plus hotel for the driver. A coach line in Michigan can get us from Muskegon to Detroit for $2500 round trip (no hotel expenses). The Lake Express cost is a little harder to nail down with their varied costs for 17 and under and 18 and older, but I'd estimate for a group of 25, it would cost $89 per round trip. Total cost per person for Lake Express, if we fill the motor coach, would be $139 per person. Motor coach option from MKE area, per person, with hotel for the driver, ends up around $144 per person.
I think the lake trip would allow for a unique travel experience, similar for those of us that took the City of New Orleans train to the NOLA Gathering. How fun would worship on the top deck be? :)
If you're interested in pursuing the Lake Express option, let me know. I've been talking with the group sales person, and we can try to get a further-reduced rate by booking together.
I'll be at the Network meeting next Thursday, so we can touch base then too.
Peace,
Dave
